Going on summer holidays? Finally, some time to yourself to de-stress, refresh, and re-set.

And there’s no better time to kick back with a book. I find that motivational books are just the ticket for the holiday season. They really help me to think about where I am at the end of another year, and plan for exciting times ahead.

If you’re looking for the perfect summer cocktail of motivation, inspiration, and mindfulness, here’s my holiday booklist for 2018:

Big Magic: Creative Living Beyond Fear by Elizabeth Gilbert

You don’t need to be a creative to discover a wealth of treasures in this book. Elizabeth shares so many valuable and practical ideas for getting inspired in life. Often drawing on her own experiences she takes you on a journey, touching on life purpose, learning, careers, and stepping into your potential. I consumed it by audio book which you’ll find on the Borrow Box app, free with a Brisbane City Council library account, or free as your first book with an Audible subscription.

Light is the New Black by Rebecca Campbell

In this fabulous book Rebecca Campbell shares her experience of a major break down/through that redirected the path of her life. She shares practical tools to help you connect with the callings of your soul. The book was recommended to me after I mentioned to someone that I wanted to deepen my connection with intuition. I got all that and more. Rebecca believes that now is the time of the rising of feminine energy and authenticity. She will inspire you to do what lights you up so that you can then be a beacon of light for others. Imagine what might be impossible with a combined energy like that …

5 Second Rule by Mel Robbins

Once riddled with anxiety and unable to get out of bed Mel Robbin’s life was transformed after she decided that she would launch herself out of bed and into life in the same way a rocket had just launched on her television. Her simple 5 second rule technique involves counting down from 5 to 1 then launching into whatever it is that you want to be doing (before your mind hijacks your plans). The book is filled with inspiring stories of people who are now living the life of their dreams after implementing the 5 Second Rule. This practical strategy is the antidote for fear and inaction. It will change your life.

The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho

It was actually Mel Robbin’s recommendation in her 5 Second Rule book that encouraged me to seek out the Alchemist. She suggested that every person should read this book and I’d absolutely agree. This fable was originally written 30 years ago and has been a best-selling inspiration to many over the years. Central character, Santiago, embarks on a journey to find his personal legend (life purpose). Many a life lesson is uncovered as this young Andalusian shepherd journeys to the pyramids of Egypt, after having a recurring dream of finding a treasure there. You’re probably going to want to read this one to the kids sometime too.

Christmas is a magical time – and as mums we spend a lot of time making magic happen for our families. Perhaps 2019 will be all about making time to invest in your own growth and evolution.
